OPEN CALL: Integrated Spatial Planning for Amalgamated Hromadas / CANactions School for Urban Studies

ABOUT
The program is based upon the CANactions School for Urban Studies methodology and focused on the adaptation of European urban and regional development policies and strategic spatial planning toolkit to the specific scale and real-life functioning of newly formed territorial communities — amalgamated hromadas. 

As a result of the program participants will become involved into designing spatial development concept for amalgamated hromadas, as well as will considerably broaden their professional network and get acquainted with representatives of amalgamated hromadas from all over Ukraine. 

The core element of educational experience is phased procedure of Amalgamated Hromadas spatial planning concepts by groups of participants, consisting of specialists in spatial planning sphere and hromadas representatives led by the international team of mentors. 

THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN HOW TO:
- Use applied methods of integrated, multiscale spatial analysis;
- Create spatial development scenarios and effective project proposals for different territorial scales and contexts;
- Develop prototypes of urban development projects with involvement of local community;
- Utilize participatory design and co-creation tools. 

WHOM THE PROGRAM IS CREATED FOR
The core target group for the program are young professionals in the field of urban and regional development with at least 2–3 years of work experience. 

Professionals with the following educational and employment backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply:
- Spatial planning specialists with degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning and Architecture;
- Activists, representatives of NGOs which activities connected to urban and regional development;
- Critically thinking researchers and professionals with background in Geography, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology and other related fields who are interested in exploration of current re-shaping of territorial communities in Ukraine in the context of decentralization 

The program includes seminars, lectures, workshops, field-work and participation in the final international conference held in the fall of 2019. 

Studio is envisioned as a key element of the program. Studio workshops (25 in total, delivered in parallel to 5 joint groups of hromada representatives and spatial planning practitioners) will be directed toward participatory process of development of local spatial development concepts for 30 Ukrainian hromadas. 

Each working group will be assigned a mentor responsible for
- introducing the strategic and integrated approach to design and planning while working on spatial development concepts;
- support in identifying, elaborating, and publicly performing presentations of spatial development concepts;
- diagnosis of the project’s key parts and phases;
- advising and tutoring team members;
- supporting the teams in organizing an efficient teamwork and project development process;
- guiding the teams during all phases of local fieldwork and participatory sessions. 

At the end of the Studio the program participants will have the opportunity to present their projects in the framework of the International Architecture Festival CANactions 2019. 

For the successful completion of the program full involvement of all the participants and active participation in all educational events is mandatory.
